Another Stealth Startup

Teaser. Teaser. Teaser.

It’s official - I’ve officially got a cofounder and we’ve officially formed a company!

In the coming weeks I’ll reveal more details about it but for now we’ll categorize it as just another “Stealth Startup”. No, it will not be in stealth for long. Yes, it’s absolutely going to be a B2B SaaS product!

Reply to this email if you want to guess what my startup is about or get a sneak peak at it!

But, let me back up. ALOT.

I’ve started many projects in the past - here’s a list of them:

  • A local Twitter account - sunset

  • T-shirts with Jersey City printed on it - sunset

  • A waitlist management app for restaurants - sunset

  • A party invite app - sunset

  • A product review site for men - sunset

  • A real-estate marketplace for FSBOs - backburner

  • A educational content aggregator - sunset

  • An app that celebrates when your relationship outlasts a failed celebrity marriage - sunset

  • A website about guitars - backburner

Most ended before they failed. Some made a little money and some I may even revisit one day. Cause of failure for most was “young, dumb, and comfortable”.

But, after being out of a full-time job as of last month, I needed to make a decision. Do I grieve for a week and go find another job or do I go and pursue this idea that won’t let me go in earnest?

I chose the latter. I’m all in on this startup. I sold my stock from the JUMP acquisition and have left the resume out of date and buried somewhere in Dropbox. (I am doing a little consulting to keep the lights on but more so cause it keeps me fresh and I love working with founders)

I’ve jumped off the ladder. I’m carving my own path. Insert more euphemisms here.

On good days, I’m ridiculously optimistic - what we’re working on is going to be amazing and become a household name. But on most days, I walk around with a question mark floating above my head. I’ve been at 4 startups now - I know what to expect and I’ve got a leg up compared to most. But my own company is different and this is my first time truly taking something from 0-1. The unknowns are endless.

Back to the present… I’ve brought on a friend of 20 years with the perfect skillset to be my co-founder and we just officially formed the company. In February we wrapped up technical definition, in March the roadmap/vision, and in April we finalized the UX design. This month we’re adding some additional engineering support - another first - and we’ll begin building v1.

I’m excited to share more and if you’re truly interested - ping me and I’ll happily pull back the curtain and share what’s cooking. Otherwise, I’ll take any wishes you can send my way and would love if you could share this story with anyone else you think might benefit from it!

PS - Next week I’m interviewing 3 founders about their b2b companies - learning from them and getting advice in disguise! I’ll be sharing everything in the next few newsies here.
